Setting up the Crabarium

 

Below is a checklist of items I strongly suggest you purchase before introducing hermit crabs to your family.

Crabarium

Glass Tank with lid

Beach Sand (Sanitised)

Play Sand (silica dust-free)

River Pebbles (fine)

Heat Pad/ Under Tank Heater (To Cover 1/2-2/3 of your tank)

Fresh Water dish (non-metallic, non-porous)

Salt-water pond (deep enough for your crab to bathe themselves in)

Food dish (easy to get in and out of, not too light)

Natural Sea Sponge (x 2, alternated daily)

Water Conditioner (dechlorinator)

Synthetic/Natural Sea Water (Instant Ocean /Tropic Marin etc)

Extra Seashells (three per crab)

Iso-unit (for moulting or in case of aggression)

Driftwood / mangrove root / choya (cellulose, exercise)

Caves to hide in (de-stress)

Coral to climb on (calcium)

 

You will need to prepare these items and set it up before introducing your crabs. Once the items are prepared you will need to arrange the crabarium BEFORE purchasing your hermit crabs and introducing them to their new home.
