Comments:

When someone online told me about the product (Pamz) and how many successful molts came about, I had to try it! It's much less expensive than sand (calci or marine), BUT you have to shop around. I found a GIANT size online for $16, and the same thing was at a local store for $30! It comes in a brick and expands in warm water. A small brick is perfect for a 10-15 gallon. I use the giant size for tunneling jumbos in half of my 75 gallon.

Since a lot of crabs are found in soil AND sand (depending on the species), it stands to reason that we should provide both. The FB substrate is soil-like, and can be re-wetted as needed. It should be VERY moist. There are 0 problems with bacteria, like some have experienced with damp/wet sand. This gives the crabs the moisture they want without sacrificing health due to mold/fungus/bacteria.

You take the brick, let it sit in hot water for 20-30 minutes and it expands to an unbelievable size.

Score Card for this product:

Pros Crabs really like it.
It's cost effective since you need not change it for
LONG periods of time.

It's all natural.

Provides a moist substrate, without the risk of mold.

Re-wetting on a weekly basis alone is fine, as long as
your humidity is optimum.

Helps, in most cases, with humidity problems.

Can "detect" humidity problems. If substrate drying
becomes a problem too quickly, check your gages.

Cons Can be messy if not separated properly from sand. I
use lego megablocks.
You might never see your crabs again!

Should be "fluffed" and re-wetted as needed.

To ensure freshness, do not buy a bag which has been
opened.
